Torah Reading: Deuteronomy 14:22-16:17, Numbers 28:19-25
HafTorah: Isaiah 10:32-12:6
Dear friends,
I hope you are having a wonderful Passover week.
We very much enjoyed our zoomed community seder last week and appreciate all who participated. Next year's will be in-person! We are especially thankful for all those who attended the Yom HaShoah Proclamation Ceremony at the New Port Richey City Hall on Tuesday. A copy of the Proclamation read by Mayor Rob Marlow is printed below.
Now as we are concluding this year's Passover holiday, we end with a very special Shabbat. Tonight at 7:30 pm in-person and on zoom we will be reading the Song of Songs (Shir HaShirim). It is one of the five megillot (scrolls) that are read at designated times of the year. The others are the Books Ruth (chanted on Shvuot), Ecclesiastes (chanted on Sukkot), and Lamentations (chanted on Tisha B'Av). Attributed to King Solomon, Shir HaShirim records poetic conversations between two lovers, describing their pursuit of each other through vineyards and fields of blossoming flowers. It is traditionally understood as a metaphor for the loving relationship between G-d and the people of Israel and is read publicly on Passover.
Tomorrow morning at 9:30 am, we will chant the Yizkor (Memorial Service) in memory of those loved ones, friends and family who came before us and helped shape our lives. This service is only held on Yom Kippur, Shemini Atzeret (the end of Sukkot), Passover, and Shavuot. As it is the last day of Passover, our Torah reading is a special one from the Book of Deuteronomy (Devorim) which denotes the pilgrimage festivals. Our Haftorah is from the Prophet Isaiah and predicts the Passover of the future, a great festival of deliverance with its message of wonderful hope and optimism.
Please join us tonight and tomorrow morning in-person or on zoom so that we can conclude this most wonderful holiday together!
Shabbat Shalom,
Ron Becker,
Spiritual Leader
