Parashat Tetzaveh (Command) Exodus 27:20 - 30:10

2nd Torah - Machor Deuteronomy 25:17 - 19

HafTorah - Samuel I 15:1-34

Dear friends,

We begin the month of March by celebrating the 105th birthday of our beloved Mary Gaines with a sumptuous Shabbat dinner. We will gather for a short Kabbalat Shabbat/Maariv service at 6:30 pm followed by dinner and the celebration. Mary's family will be joining us for this wonderful occasion. On a personal note, I will need to participate on Zoom but am happy to report that I am making progress and have been released from the hospital where I had been since January 30th and am now at Solaris Rehab in Hudson where I'll be for the next few weeks getting healthier and stronger each day!

Again, thanks to Eileen, Perry, and Elliot and all who continue to attend, our religious services continue on and are 1st rate!

As we approach the joyous holiday of Purim, we first observe Shabbat Zachor, the Sabbath of memory. In the midst of celebration, we remember that life isn't always perfect without overly dwelling on it. Thus, on this Shabbat as we have prepared for and happily anticipate our Purim celebration, we remember Amalek who attacked the rear and most vulnerable among us as we were escaping Egyptian bondage. The evil Hamen is often compared to Amalek as are many of the tyrants who have tried to destroy our people and our faith throughput the millennia since. So, as we prepare our hamantaschen and to gather for our annual social hour and reading of the Megillah, we continue to remember our history and pray for the eradication of all evil.

This week's Torah portion of Tetzaveh continues the theme of last week's when we read of the ornate construction of the Mishkan. This week, we are introduced to the Ner Tamid shining light into the Mishkan and into our hearts and minds always. Also, we will read about the appointment of Aaron and his sons as Kohanim (priests). Our Maftir reading from a 2nd Torah is from the Book of Deuteronomy and recounts the evil doings of Amalek and exhorts us to never forget it. Please attend in person or virtually tonight at 6:30 pm and tomorrow qt 9:30 am to ensure a minyan and continue the discussion of the themes of Shabbat Zachor, and on Monday at 6:30 pm for the social hour and celebration of Purim.

Shabbat Shalom, Chag Purim Sameach, and Yom Huledet Sameach/Mazel Tov to Mary and family!

Ron Becker,

Spiritual Leader
