PASSOVER
Dear friends,
Pesach is finally upon us!
Tonight, we will get together on zoom only to welcome Shabbat and the Festival of Passover at 6 pm. We'll light candles for Shabbat and Yom Tov and recite the Shehecheyanu prayer for the privilege of living to experience this wonderful night, bless our children, and chant Yedid Nefesh and Shalom Alechem. We will then chant the special Kiddush for Shbbbat and Yom Tov and begin our reading of the Haggadah with an explanation of the Seder plate, the Four Questions asked by the youngest among us (who will that be?) and on to the rest of the story which answers all those questions. Even though it is so many generations later, the Haggadah places us with the Children of Israel during the Exodus as it is commanded that we all experience this critical junction in our history. We will finish up at around 7 pm so that you can enjoy the Passover meal with your friends and family who are present and with those with "virtual connections".
Then tomorrow morning, we will hold our Shabbat/Passover service at 9:30 am both in-person and virtually on zoom. We will read and study Exodus Chapter 12 which contains the commandment and instructions for the observance of Passover. Our Haftorah is taken from the Book of Joshua and describes the first Passover to be observed in the Holy Land after the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan River. Also included in the service is the prayer for "dew, precious dew". It is on this day that we stop our prayers for rain in the Amidah and add that for dew to recognize that the rainy season in Israel is at an end. This prayer is of such significance that the service leader wears the traditional kittel (white robe) while chanting it.
There is so much going on during this special time of year. Please note the dates and times below and please make every effort to attend the Yom HaShoah proclamation that our synagogue will be receiving at New Port Richey City Hall on Tuesday, April 19th at 7 pm. Looking forward to sharing all of this with you!
Chag Pesach Sameach and Shabbat Shalom,
Ron Becker,
Spiritual Leader
