HafTorah Judges 13:2 - 25

Join us in our beautiful sanctuary or on Zoom

Dear friends,

I very much enjoyed sharing the Shavuot morning holiday service with you. It was emotional (especially the Book of Ruth and the Yizkor service) and helps bind us as a community.

This Shabbat weekend, we continue in the Book of Bamidbar with the portion of Naso which begins with yet another census (proving how important it is to be counted) and includes vows and the Priestly Blessing (Chapter 6, verses 22-27) which we recite every morning and evening in our prayer services and to our children every Shabbat evening right after the Kiddush and before dinner:

"And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying: In this way you shall bless the children on Israel, you shall say unto them:

May the Lord bless you and protect you

May the Lord show you kindness and be gracious to you

May the Lord bestow favor upon you and grant you peace

So shall they put the Lord's name on the children on Israel, and He shall bless them"

We are also introduced to the strict Nazarite vow and in our Haftorah from the Book of Judges, we read about the birth of Samson, the most famous of the Nazarites. Finally, we learn the gifts that all of the tribes bring to the Tabernacle which is also chanted every year on Hanukkah.

I'm looking forward to sharing these and other thoughts with you on Shabbat during services at 7:30 pm tonight and 9:30 am tomorrow morning both in-person and on Zoom

Also, if you are available, please "save the dates" of Sunday, June 6th and/or Sunday June 13th both at 11 am for the unveilings of the monuments in memory of Mel Finkelstein (at Beth Olam Cemetery in Trinity on the 6th) and Rose Mitrani (at Grace Memorial Cemetery in Hudson on the 13th). The proceedings will take approximately a 1/2 hour and your presence will help ensure a minyan so that Kaddish can be said by the families. I also have Yahrzeit in memory of my beloved father on the 13th, so will appreciate the opportunity to say Kaddish at the cemetery as well!

Shabbat Shalom! Ron
