Parashat KiTavo - Deuteronomy 26:1 - 29:8
HafTorah - Isaiah 60:1 - 22
Dear friends,
As we move closer and closer to the High Holy Days (Rosh Hashanah is now only a little over a week away!), we make our final preparations this Shabbat weekend as we remove our Torah covers and replace them with our Yom Tov white ones, come together for Selichot and visit our cemeteries to remember those who have come before us. Please join me in-person or virtually on Zoom this evening at 7:30 pm and tomorrow morning at 9:30 am for Shabbat services. We continue reading and studying from the Book of Deuteronomy and will chant the 6th of the 7 the Prophet Isaiah's Haftorot of Consolation. This week's portion is Ki Tavo which concludes with a detailed description of blessings that follow obedience to the Mitzvot and curses that come with their desecration. We pray for the strength for a heart of wisdom and caring to avert any curses and to live a life of morality, courage, and service to ourselves, our families, and our communities as we embark on the year 5783.
Tomorrow evening we will gather at 6:30 pm for a pizza dinner and social hour followed by our Selichot service at 7:30 pm. The service will also be available on Zoom. Then on Sunday morning, we will meet at Beit Olam Cemetery in Trinity at 10:30 am; Grace Memorial Cemetery at 12 noon; and the National Cemetery at Bushnell at 2 pm. Please feel free to attend any or all as we chant the Eil Molei Rachamim prayer for relatives and friends who are buried there. If you don't have relatives or friends at any of the cemeteries, please come to one or more and we will chant the prayer for any who you would like to remember.
