Parashat Nitzavim (Standing) - Vayelech (and Moses went) Deuteronomy 29:9 -31:30
HafTorah Isaiah 61:10 -53:09

Dear Friends,
As we are now less than a week away from embarking on the High Holy Days and the year 5785, I wish all a happy and healthy year ahead and look forward to sharing the upcoming month of holidays with you.
This Shabbat, we read the double Torah portion of Nitzavim/Vayelech in which Moses with his final discourse, bids farewell to the people he has led out of Egypt and through the wilderness for forty years and once again, exhorts them to choose good over evil and to be of good courage as they begin their new lives in the Holy Land. It is clear that his words were not meant only for the multitude gathering around him but for every generation including our own. Adonai gives us the tools to make the earth a safe and plentiful place, but we decide our own destiny through our actions. We then conclude with the last of Isaiah's seven Haftorahs of Comfort always read on the Shabbat immediately preceding Rosh Hashanah.
Please join me in-person (weather permitting) or on Zoom this evening at 7:30 pm and tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9:30 am as we continue our prayers and study. Then on Saturday evening at 6:30 pm we gather again for a social hour and afterwards (in-person or on Zoom) at 7:30 pm for the Selichot (prayers for forgiveness) service as our final tune-up for the High Holy Days. And on Sunday, we complete this special weekend, with our cemetery visitations which will include the unveiling of the memorial for Rabbi Al and Rebbetzin Sandy Goldberg, of blessed memory at Beit Olam Cemetery in Trinity. The cemetery visitation is as follows:
10:30 am- Beit Olam in Trinity
12:30 pm- Grace Memorial in Hudson
2:00 pm- National Cemetery in Bushnell
Please plan on attending one of the sessions where we will be chanting memorial prayers for family members and friends as is the custom immediately preceding Rosh Hashanah. It is not necessary for you to have friends/relatives interred in any of these sites. We will chant memorial prayers for all who attend at any of the cemeteries.
Looking forward to spending this important weekend with you as we embark on the new year.
Shabbat Shalom,
Ron Becker,
Spiritual Leader

under your holy, pure and glorious wings
that shine like the sky,

Compassionate one,
provide rest for the soul of our loved one in Ga’an Eden
and never withdraw your protective wings and take
this soul into the bond of life. Hashem is this soul’s
everlasting inheritance and peaceful resting place,
and let us say: Amen.
