Weekly Message 12.01.2023 Parashat Vayishlach

Parashat Vayishlach (And he sent) Genesis 32:4 - 36:43

HafTorah Obadiah 1:1 - 21

Dear friends,

As we contemplate the beginning of Hanukkah, we pray for the continued release of hostages and the cessation of hostilites everywhere. This Shabbat, we will hold our regular services at 7:30 pm this evening and 9:30 am tomorrow as usual in person and virtually on Zoom. Right after services tomorrow, we will carpool to Temple Beth David in Spring Hill for the next event sponsored by the Nature Coast Inter-Faith Coalition. It will be an Interfaith Shabbat beginning at 12:15 pm entitled Torah Talks: Interfaith Dialogues in Families and Communities. There will be a presentation and discussion led by Rabbi Jen Goldberg about what it means to be living in an interfaith world. How can we be true to our own faith beliefs while embracing the traditions of other faiths during the Hanukkah and Christmas season? Please help us make a good showing from our synagogue! If you are unable to attend services that morning, you are still welcome to attend the interfaith program afterwords. Temple Beth David is located at 13158 Antelope Street, Spring Hill, FL 34609 about a half hour's drive from New Port Richey.

Then we gather on that same evening (Saturday December 2nd) at 6 pm at our residence on Grand Boulevard by the Cotee River for Havdalah followed by latkes, sufganyot, and other holiday treats as we watch the highly decorated vessels float by at the annual holiday boat parade. We have hosted this event for several years and look forward to seeing you all at this year's. Feel free to bring along dairy and pareve food items and lawn chairs. There is seating at the benches along the river, at the cupula in front of our house, and of course, all along the seawall.

Then on Sunday, December 3rd, come on down to the synagogue giftshop between 11 am and 1 pm to view and purchase a wide variety of Hanukkah gifts and necessities---candles, menorah, toys, games, gifts of all sorts, wrapping paper, etc. etc.

And this is your last chance to reserve a spot for our Shabbat/Hanukkah dinner and celebration at 6:30 pm on Friday, December 8th. Then on Sunday, December 10th, the gift shop will once again be open from 11 am until 12:45 pm and then please join us for a Hanukkah party at the Trinity Place Assisted Living Center, 8684 Old County Road 54, New Port Richey, FL 24653. We can carpool from the synagogue, or you can join us there. The festivities begin at 1:15 pm. Let us know if you have a favorite Hanukkah tune in English, Hebrew, or Yiddish for inclusion on our song sheet! The residents at assisted living very much appreciate our presence during the holiday and I guarantee you will be uplifted by seeing their spirits uplifted in addition to yet another sampling of latkes and sufganyot!

Again, please don't sit on the sidelines, but participate in our many activities during Hanukkah and always!

Shabbat Shalom,

Ron Becker,

Spiritual Leader
