Parashat Tsav (command) Leviticus 6:1 - 8:36
HafTorah Malachi 3:4 - 24
Dear friends,
This Shabbat, we complete our preparations for Passover with the observance of Shabbat Hagadol, the Great Sabbath. This special Shabbat always occurs on the Sabbath immediately before Passover, and this year it is literally the day before!
Its special significance derives from the reading of the Haftorah from the prophet Malachi at which he predicts the coming of the Prophet Elijah who will reconcile all the people. And of course, we will welcome Elijah at the conclusion of our Passover seder as we open our door and drink the fourth and final cup of wine. Prior to our reading of this Haftorah, we will discuss this week's Torah portion (Tsav) the second sedrah, chapters 6 through 8 in the Book of Leviticus (Vayikra) which relate: •The five sacrifices that the priests are to perform are described. (6:1-7:38)
•Limitations on the consumption of meat are delineated. (7:17-27)
•Details about the ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests and the preparation of the Tabernacle as a holy place are given. (8:1-36)
So please plan to join us on Zoom tonight at 7:30 pm and tomorrow morning at 9:30 am to pray and discuss the teachings of Shabbat Hagadol together. Then at 5:30 pm tomorrow (Saturday) evening, tune in for our Zoomed Haggadah reading prior to partaking of the first Passover seder. We will have a short festival service followed by the reading and discussion of the first half of the Haggadah. Then you are on your own for the meal! Then on Sunday morning at 9:30 am, we will conduct our Passover service which includes the chanting of the Hallel (psalms of praise) and the beautiful song as the rainy season in Israel comes to an end and we begin to pray for "dew, precious dew" Morid HaTal. You'll find the links to all of our Passover weekend services and activities below. Chris and I wish you a Shabbat Hagadol Shalom and a Zissen (sweet), Kosher, and meaningful Pesach. !חַג פֵּסַח שַׂמֵחַ
