Parashat Va'ectchanan (and I beseeched)

Deuteronomy 3:23 - 7:11

Hello Congregants, friends, guests, and loved ones -I am writing today to you as Ron Becker our Spiritual Leader is taking a much needed rest in Delaware with his family.

I hope this email is finding everyone staying strong and safe. Not only are we dealing with the Virus but Florida will be dealing with a hurricane in our state this weekend. So my wishes for a safe and non-eventful weekend for us all.

I would like to share with you this week’s Parsha from the book of Devarim, Deuteronomy. The Parsha this week is Va’etchanan which means “I pleaded “Moses is pleading with Hashem to allow him to continue leading the Israelites to the Promise Land” which as we know does not happen. The Parsha tells how Moses asked to see the Land of Israel, made arguments to the Israelites why it is so important for us to obey the laws given to us at Mount Sinai, recited the Ten Commandments and the Shema and gave instruction on how to conquer the Promised Land.

From the Davar of Cantor Lauren Phillips Fogelman, The arrival of Parashat Va-et’chanan on Shabbat Nachamu reminds us that effective prayer is best achieved when we take the time to focus and organize our thoughts. This advice serves us well as we approach the upcoming Yamim Nora-im, a period of introspection .

Even as we pray individually, as Moses did at the beginning of Va-et’chanan, it is important to remind ourselves that we all matter — by our words, our demeanor, and our intention — to the success of the prayers of the entire community. Let the examples offered by Moses and by the Sh’ma and His blessings guide us over next seven weeks, into Elul, and towards the High Holidays themselves as we prepare to become our best selves in 5781.

Please join us tonight, Friday July 31st 2020 as we welcome the Shabbat either on Zoom or in person at the Shul. Please see below on the instructions needed to attend either method.
