Parashat Korach (is the person that incites the rebellion against Moses and Aaron) Numbers 16:1 - 18:32
HafTorah - Samuel I 11:14 - 12:22

Dear friends,

Greetings again from Delaware where it is hotter than it is in Florida!
We're enjoying our last days here before returning home early next week. So, I will be joining you via Zoom again this Shabbat when we read about the horrific rebellion led by Korach who questioned Moses's authority despite all that had transpired which led the children of Israel out of bondage and in the direction of freedom in their ancestral home, the "Promised Land". This sad turn of events occurred shortly after the negative report of the spies and the decree that all who were adults in Egypt would perish in the wilderness rather than entering that land of freedom. Thus, this marks the beginning of the long sojourn in which those who were children in Egypt or born in the wilderness could prepare themselves for their future lives in Israel.

Just as the rebels demanded political change in the wilderness, much later during the twilight of the era of Judges in Israel, the people rebelled against the rule of Samuel and the other judges and demanded a King to rule over them much like other societies. Samual relents and Saul is anointed as Israel's first king.
Please join me at the synagogue or virtually on Zoom this evening at 7:30 pm and tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 9:30 am. I have yahrzeit for my father of blessed memory (Beryl ben Yisrael Leib v Basha) in the coming week (3rd day of Tammuz) so would appreciate all who attend and make the minyan so that I can recite the Mourner's Kaddish prayer.
Also, our next volunteer session at Metropolitan Ministries will be on Thursday, July 10th between 11 am and 2 pm at the Pasco headquarters on Route 19 in Holiday across from Sun Toyota. Please consider helping out if you possibly are able! To sign up, simply click on this link https://vhub.at/1L1BLIK and follow the registration instructions.

And please remember that our next Shabbat community dinner which will take place on Friday, July 11th following an abbreviated Kabbalat Shabbat service which will begin at 6:30 pm. The theme will be "summer picnic" and we will enjoy hot dogs, coleslaw, ;potato salad, watermelon, etc. All the fun of a picnic, good food and good company without the ants and threat of inclement weather at a cost of only $18 for members, $25 for non-members, Please get your reservations into the office by the deadline of June 30th so that our volunteer planners and chefs can prepare properly.
