Parashat Matot (Tribes) Masei (Journeys) Numbers 30:2 -36:13

HafTorah Jeremiah 2:4-28, Jeremiah 4:1-2

Dear friends,

Greetings from the tiny but beautiful state of Delaware where we are enjoying the beach community and the company of friends and relatives for the next two weeks. I hope you are all doing well wherever you might be this summer.

Meanwhile the synagogue stays open and active throughout and this Shabbat, we conclude the Book of Bamidbar with the combined portions of Matot and Masei in which laws for the occupation of the promised land are introduced. Torah study is concluded with the 2nd of the 3 Haftorahs of Admonition in which the Prophet Jeremiah (likely written shortly before the conquering of Jerusalem by the Babylonians) calls on the beleaguered people to repent and change their ways to secure Hashem's forgiveness and a second chance at maintaining the Holy land and redemption. On Thursday, July 27th at 9:30 am, we will meet in-person and on Zoom to read Jeremiah's Book of Lamentations, written as the city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land laid in ruins on Tisha B'Av.

In order to ensure a minyan, please try to attend services in-person or on Zoom tonight at 7:30 pm and tomorrow morning at 9:30 am and on Shabbat throughout the summer season.
