Weekly Message 10.23.2020 Parashat Noach

Parashat-Noach (rest, repose) Genesis 6:9-11:32

HafTorah-Isaiah 54:1-10

Dear friends,

As we approach Shabbat and the study of Parashat Noach (the Torah portion of the story of Noah and the great flood), I would like to thank all those who helped make the minyan on Tuesday morning, the day of my beloved mother of blessed memories Yahrzeit. I was able to honor her memory by chanting the mourner's Kaddish in the presence of a minyan of my friends---a tribute to my mother's memory and the loyal friendships we have made in our wonderful community.

This Shabbat weekend, we will study the story of Noah, the great flood, and the rebuilding of society culminating in the confusion caused by the construction of the Tower of Babel which resulted in the breakup in the unity of culture through a common language. There are many similarities in our current time, both in the danger to our earth and in our relations with others with different languages and cultures. There is much to digest and discuss!

We will be honored on Friday evening as our member Danielle Merkle will be leading the service beginning at 7:30 pm. I will look forward to hearing her beautiful voice and perhaps, learning a new melody or two! Please join us in person or on Zoom.

On Saturday, morning, our service begins at 9:30 am and will include Torah study and an inspiring Haftorah from the prophecies of Isaiah. he encourages us to "enlarge our dwelling" and not isolate ourselves or feel sorry for ourselves for any shortcomings or lack of fortune. Our service begins at 9:30 am. Please help us make the minyan and come on time (or close to on-time!) so that we can chant the Kaddish and Baruch-Hu (the call to prayer that launches the (Shacharit service) and repeat the Amidah. As always, the service takes place in the synagogue and on Zoom.
