Parashat Vayera (And He Appeared) Genesis 18:1 - 22:24
HafTorah - KingsII 4:1-37

Dear friends,
I would like to begin my weekly message by thanking those who attended Sunday's inspirational Interfaith Peace Service. We filled the sanctuary with representatives from many faiths and hope that our efforts will continue to promote peace and harmony in our region and that it will spread far and wide. The event was recorded and available for viewing at:

Our next event (the Lifeline Summit) will be held in the synagogue on Wednesday, November 8th from 9 am until noon and will continue these efforts to help repair our world. Please try to attend if you possibly can, but if not in-person, then the special link for this program will be:
This is also the link for the weekly one-hour Lifeline sessions occurring every Thursday morning from 9 until 10 am to which you are also invited. We just completed our 190th consecutive week of these Zoom interfaith meetings.
And please consider volunteering at the Metropolitan Ministries holiday tent. We will gather on Tuesday, November 21st between 11 am and 2:30 pm to distribute food, clothing, toys, and other necessities for those in need at the tent at 1540 Little Rd, New Port Richey 34655 on the grounds of the Generations Church. We need to have the final count and the participants registered no later than November 7th so please let me know ASAP if you can volunteer.
This Shabbat, we continue our study and reading of the Book of Bereshit (Genesis) with the middle portion of Vayera (Chapters 21 and 22) which tell of the birth of Isaac, the banishment of Hagar and Ishamel, and the "binding" of Isaac. This portion is also read on the 2nd morning of Rosh Hashana. Our services will be held at the usual times (tonight at 7:30 pm and tomorrow at 9:30 am) in-person and virtually on Zoom.
Also, we are invited to an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at Temple Beth David in Spring Hill on Tuesday, September 21st at 7 pm. Carpooling will be available!
Finally, please save these dates for our celebration of the Hanukkah season:
Saturday, December 2nd at 6 pm. Havadalah at our residence at the Cotee River Park in New Port Richey followed by latkes, sufganyot (jelly donuts), hot beverages and the viewing of the colorful annual holiday Boat Parade.
Friday, December 8th at 6:30 pm for an abbreviated Kabbalat Shabbat/Maariv service followed by our Hanukkah/Shabbat dinner.
Sunday, December 10th at 11 am when we gather to bring Hanukkah cheer to those unable to leave their homes and then to visit those at Trinity Place Assisted Living, 8684 Old County Rd 54, New Port Richey, FL 34653, for candle lighting and Hanukkah goodies. Trinity Place is the new home of Rabbi Al Goldberg (Apartment 425) and several other Jewish residents.
Thursday, December 21st from 11 am til 2:30 pm, we volunteer again at the Metropolitan Ministries holiday tent on Little Road. Again, let me know ASAP if you are available so that you can be registered in time.
With much appreciation, blessings and continued prayers for the return of the hostages and for an end to war and violence.
Shabbat Shalom,
Ron Becker,
Spiritual Leader
