Parashat Yitro (Jethro Moses' father-in-law) Exodus 18:1 - 20:23
HafTorah Isaiah 6:1 - 13
Dear friends,
Hope you have had a happy and healthy month of January and as we turn the page to February, we continue our reading of the Book of Exodus and witness the children of Israel standing in awe at Sinai as Moses receives the Ten Commandments.
We will recite those Commandments, which even if we pay little attention to the other mitzvot give us and all society throughout the world, these basic rules give us a universal code to live by.
I am looking forward to seeing you all this evening at 7:30 pm and tomorrow morning at 9:30 am in-person or virtually on Zoom and sharing further thoughts on the Ten Commandments and on why leadership needs to be shared by all, a lesson that Moses learns from his father-in-law Yitro prior to his ascending the mountain.
Please consider joining us at Metropolitan Ministries for our monthly volunteering in the kitchen or the food pantry or the clothing distribution room at the headquarters on route 19 across from Sun Toyota. We will next be there on February 29th from 11:30 am until 2 pm. You are guaranteed to feel good afterwards and will have a chance to spend a couple hours with congregants and friends helping to feed the hungry and provide encouragement and support!
Please mark your calendars for a Shabbat "Middle Eastern" luncheon on February 17th that Chris and I are sponsoring in celebration of our birthdays and my Bar Mitzvah anniversary; a Shabbat dinner on March 2nd sponsored by Joel Gartner in memory his mother, our beloved matriarch Mary Gaines; a Purim party (complete with Hamentaschen and ice cream on March 24th followed by a reading of Meillat Esther; and our first in-person Pesach seder since the pandemic (first since 2019) on April 23rd. Much to look forward to this season!
