Dear friends,

L'Shana Tova!

I would like to begin this message by showing my sincere gratitude for all who have made this High Holy Day season possible and so meaningful for us all, beginning over a month ago at Rosh Chodesh Elul and continuing through our readings of the Torah and the Prophet Isaiah, our observance of Selichot, our trips to the cemeteries to honor the memories of our loved ones, and on Rosh Hashanah, our community dinner and prayers including a record turnout at Tashlikh at the Cotee River. For everyone who planned our activities and services and to all who participated from near (at shul) and far (on Zoom) you have all contributed to making this such a remarkable and memorable time. And, we are far from finished!

We are now prepared to observe Shabbat Shuva (the Sabbath of Repentance) which always takes place between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. And at our synagogue, it is a particularly special Shabbat in that we celebrate the 6th anniversary of our adult Bar/Bat Mitzvahs. At our religious service at 9:30 tomorrow (Saturday) morning, Ana Calderon, Barbara D (Devora) Johnson, Barbara E (Evria) Johnson, and Art Simon will be called once again to the Torah and will lead us in the readings and explanation from three prophets (Hosea, Micah, and Joel). And all who attend will be treated to a special Shabbat Kiddush luncheon following the service. Let us gather with them to show our love and appreciation of their efforts as a community!

And please remember to keep all of the dates below in mind as we continue this Holy Day season over the coming weeks.Wishing you nothing but the best during this week of repentance and always,

Ron Becker,

Spiritual Leader
