Weekly Message 10.18.2024 Shabbat Sukkot Chol HaMoed

Shabbat Sukkot Chol HaMoed - Exodus 33:12 - 34:26

Numbers 29:17 - 22

HafTorah - Ezekiel 38:18 - 39:16

Dear friends,

I hope that your storm recovery continues to go smoothly, and you are enjoying the beautiful weather that is accompanying this joyous Yom Tov!

Thanks to all that have made our Sukkah and our Sukkot services so special this year. We are now about to observe Shabbat Chol HaMoed which on tomorrow (Saturday) morning will include the chanting of Hallel, the Torah reading from the Book of Exodus (Shemot) which is the origin of the attributes of Adonai of which we are reminded during our Selichot prayers and at every festival service.

Adonai-Adonai, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and faithfulness, extending kindness to the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin.

We will also read selections from Ecclesiastes (Kohelet) often attributed to King Solomon writing in his old age. It is read on the Shabbat of Sukkot as a reminder to not get too caught up in the festivities of the holiday and to carry over the happiness of Sukkot to the rest of the year by telling us that, without Adonai, life is meaningless. "To everything under the sun, there is a purpose unto heaven." We follow this unique service with a Kiddush luncheon in the Sukkah.

We conclude the day with the program entitled "Prayers for Peace in the Holy Land" which unites us with faith leaders, worshipers and area groups and communities to pray for peace and unity. A reception and time for fellowship, food, and interaction will follow this diverse and all-inclusive event. This important community event will take place this Saturday afternoon, October 19th at 4 pm at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6193 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34606. We are happy to arrange carpooling from the synagogue and encourage as many as possible for attend.

Please join me and your synagogue family for all of our activities on this very special Shabbat Sukkot Chol HaMoed,

Ron Becker,

Spiritual Leader
